Head Guide (Lead Guide):
The most experienced and responsible for your safety.
Assistant Guides:
Help the lead guide and provide support.
Cook:
Prepares meals for the group.
Porters:
Carry equipment, tents, and supplies (they do the hardest physical work).
Recommended Tipping Amounts
(Per Group, Per Day)
- Lead Guide:$25 per day
- Assistant Guides:20per day each
- Cook:$20per day
- Porters:$15 per day each

Total Estimated Tipping Budget
(Per Climber)
The total per climber is typically $300–$400, depending on group size or solo hiker
How to Distribute Tips?
- Collect tips from all climbers in the group.
- Hand tips to the lead guide in an envelope (they will distribute fairly among the team).
Some climbers prefer to tip individually, especially for exceptional service.

On the last day (usually at the Mweka Gate or Marangu Gate after descending).
A short tipping ceremony is customary, where the team sings and thanks you.
Additional Tips
Tip in USD (cash) – Tanzanian shillings are also acceptable, but USD is preferred.
Consider extra for outstanding service – If someone went above and beyond, a personal bonus is appreciated.
